The Murcia region

The Costa Calida means Warm Coast and comprises of approximately 250 kilometres of Mediterranean coastline located in the province of Murcia. It extends roughly from El Mojon in the north to the resort of Aguilas in the south, the region to the north is called the Costa Blanca and the region to the south is known as the Costa Almeria.

Heavenly beaches of endless white sand, lively ports and wild coves with crystal clear water, more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and mild temperatures even in winter with a yearly average of more than 20ºC. This is the Costa Calida, the ideal place to spend time relaxing both in winter and summer. There are lots of things to see and do.

There are an abundance of excellent restaurants to sample the fine Murcian cuisine. The local diet is big on rice, fruit, vegetables and pulses as well as seafood and white meats. The area is known as la Huerta, Spain’s market garden. Wheat, olives and vines produce the finest bread, olives and wine. There are fig and almond trees galore and orange, lemon and olive groves everywhere.

Nearby is Cartagena which has a natural harbour. The port is rich in ancient and maritime history. The town is walled, the harbour defended by forts, and Roman ruins are scattered throughout. Explore the remarkable Roman Theatre dating from the 1st century BC. Take a tour on the Barco Turístico (Tourist Catamaran) and learn about the history of the harbour, its forts, local stories and legends.

Visit the Mar Menor, Europe’s largest lagoon, for an unforgettable swim or snorkel. Moorish Kings once came to Mar Menor to recharge their bodies in the warm, salty water. It is believed to have great curative properties for ailments such as rheumatism and arthritis.

Murcia City is home to the beautiful Cathedral de Santa Maria located at the plaza del Cardinal Belluga. Right outside the Cathedral you will find the city hall and the Palacia Episcopal, the residency of the Bishop of Murcia. There are a variety of museums, from the archeological to the museum for water systems, to the museo de bellas Artes which shows art from Ballester and Gaya amongst others.

Aqua Natura Murcia is a fabulous water park covering a total area of 30,000 m2. It is known as Zanzibar and aims to recreate the Indian Ocean island of the same name. The park is an ideal choice for a fabulous day out for both adults and children. Accessed via the A7 motorway and the main Murcia road.

Terra Natura Murcia is another excellent place for children and adults alike. A new generation wildlife park divided into two themed areas – the African Savannah and the Iberian Peninsula. Visitors can see more than 300 animals from 50 different species, with over 500 examples of more than 50 species of trees, shrubs and plants. There is a range of shows, entertainment and adventure activities to add to your enjoyment. Also there is a water park and entry to both is on the same ticket so a full day can be had by all.

Condado de Alhama

Relax al fresco style on the comfortably furnished terrace and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the landscaped gardens and stunning rural and mountain views. When you want to cool off then it is just a short stroll to the large pool. In the evening you can sit on the terrace and watch the stars or have a safe stroll through the gardens. The more active may like to take advantage of the cycle hire on site and payable locally.

Al-Kasar town centre is only a 5 minute walk along a beautiful palm-lined avenue. This is the central hub of Condado de Alhama, which is beautifully illuminated in the evening. You will find a well-stocked supermarket, a Bulgarian Restaurant & Pizzeria The Clover  Bar with comfortable outdoor seating, which also serves bar snacks, La Cata, restaurant/bar/deli, Sabores ice cream parlour and coffee shop and Bokoa Tapas Bar, American Diner with bar, French Restaurant  and finally A patisserie open from 0830 where you can enjoy the local breakfast and snacks with a coffee and watch the world go by. The sports facilities include 2 outdoor football pitches next to Al-Kasar. There are also tennis, squash, paddle and basketball courts on site and a Gym situated next to the Condado Club where you can enjoy drinks, tapas & delicious freshly cooked meals including breakfast.

Condado de Alhama is part of the Nicklaus Golf Trail. Jack Nicklaus has created 4 golf courses for Polaris World within a 25 km radius, 4 courses offering a different challenge every day. The fabulous 18-hole Signature Golf Course is now open for play. Future development is planned for two further Jack Nicklaus (Bear’s Best)18-hole golf courses on site. If you like the beach then a 20 minute drive will take you to the stunning unspoilt beaches of Mazarrón Bay. The area has a great variety of water activities, from sailing to wind and kite-surfing to water-skiing, scuba diving and kayaking. The new Marina at Puerto de Mazarrón offers cruises.

The city of Alhama de Murcia is just a short drive away. Al-hama, meaning hot springs in Arabic. The most interesting corner of Alhama is in Plaza Vieja, at the foot of the ruined castle, which was originally a watchtower built by the Moors. Try visiting the interesting Los Baños archaeological centre, with its Arabic hot baths, located opposite the church of San Lázaro.

At Alhama you will find the gateway to the Sierra Espuña Nature Park where you can enjoy fabulous walks, rockclimbing and cycling. The more adventurous may like to try horse riding or paragliding.

The apartment is located in the resort of Condado de Alhama which sits 12kn south of Alhama de Murcia.  This first floor apartment on the La Isla part of Condado is tastefully furnished for your self catering stay, it is beautifully located within the resort, south facing offering views across the lake and onto the resort from the sunny terrace.  It is a corner property and gives a good level of privacy.

The  apartment is fully furnished to a high standard comprising of fully fitted kitchen including microwave, fridge freezer, oven and hob and dish washer.

The dining area and lounge has patio doors leading out onto the balcony/sun terrace area furnished to relax and enjoy the Spanish sun.  Within the spacious lounge you have access to over 250 multi national tv programmes.

There are two bedrooms the master bedroom has a double bed and the twin bedroom has two single beds.  Both bedrooms have fitted wardrobes and linen and towels are provided.

The apartment has a private parking space and the island resort can only be entered via a bridge and access point.  There is also a lift in the apartment block

The island has two communal pools (not heated) a childrens play area and a games area on the island which has table tennis tables and various indoor games in the games hut.

The resort contains a well-stocked supermarket and restaurants and bars in the ‘Al Kasar’ town centre a mere 10 minutes’ walk away from the apartment.  Also situated on the resort between Jardin 7 and 5 is the Condado Club.  There are tennis courts, paddle courts and gymnasium also located here.

Within easy reach of the resort approx 25 minute drive is the spectacular Puerto de Mazarron which hosts some of Southern Spain’s best beaches.  The central hub of Puerto de Mazarron has a magnificent palm fringed promenade with stunning views and has many restaurants and cafes. 

There are many places to see and go within the Murcia Region of Spain including the historic Cartegena, Lorca and Totana all situated within 40 mins of the resort.  Those that like a separate challenge, there is the Sierra Espuna region park which is very popular with walkers, cyclists and climbers.  The hotel Mariposa also lays on various activates in and around the nature park.

Travel:

Murcia airport known as Corvera (RMU) is the nearest airport approximately 25 minutes’ drive away. Alicante Airport (ALC) is approximately 75 minutes’ drive.

This beautiful apartment is fully furnished to a very high standard in modern Nordic/Scandinavian style.  It offers nice views across the pool area, the lake, the mountains and orange fields and is situated in a quiet area of the resort.  The apartment is a short 4 min walk to main central hub area of the resort, the Al Kasar, which offers numerous restaurants, bars and cafes.  Located on the La Isla community of the resort, the La Isla residents have exclusive use of the outdoor fitness facilities, or relax in the community area where there is a childrens play area, and a games area on the island which has table tennis tables and various indoor games in the games hut.  Also located on the resort are tennis courts, paddle courts and a gymnasium.

All Aircon within the apartment are extra silent.  The apartment is supplied with €10 free credit for the AC usage, if you require more credit you can buy these cards by contacting the  Military Breaks Plus SL office, located next to the Condado Club.

The apartment has a fully fitted kitchen including a moccamaster and Necspresso coffee machine, stylish microwave and a super quiet dishwasher.

The dining/lounge area is open and spacious and gives a contemporary feel to the apartment , it has large patio doors which lead onto the furnished  balcony/sun terrace to relax and enjoy.  It also offers Scandinavian TV channels in addition to all the others.  The Aircon in the apartment is extremely quiet and has a motion sensor to keep you cool where ever you are within the room.

There are two bedrooms within the apartment,  the master bedroom which has a  double bed fitted with  an extra comfortable memory foam mattress.  It is equipped with a TV and Aircon and has a safe located in the large built in wardrobes.  The twin bedroom has two single beds, both with extra length 2m mattresses (Scandinavian size) and a mobile fan.
